🍴 Dirty Horchata, Breakfast Burrito ✨ Surf, chill, community 🏆 Best coffee and chill vibes in Urbiztondo

Seriously, El Union is my go-to! After catching some waves, nothing beats their Dirty Horchata and a hearty breakfast burrito. The vibe is super chill, and it's the perfect spot to meet up with friends.

💡
Insider Tip

Okay, so here's the insider tip: try asking for the 'secret menu' cold brew. It's not always available, but if they have it, it's the perfect pick-me-up. Also, parking can be a pain during peak season, so come early or try parking a bit further down the road near the beach.

El Union Coffee is more than just a cafe; it’s a La Union landmark. Recently recognized as one of the world’s top coffee shops, it captures the "surf-town-cool" aesthetic. The Signature Drink: You can't leave without trying the Dirty Horchata. It’s a creamy, cinnamon-spiced rice milk drink topped with a shot of espresso—refreshing, and unique. The Vibe: It’s an open-air, multi-level space with industrial-tropical décor. It’s the best spot for people-watching, though it gets very busy on weekends. The Trade-off Because it’s so popular, expect long queues during peak hours. I had a not-so perfect experience as my order didn’t get queued so the wait time was longer than usual. If you want a peaceful experience, try visiting on a weekday morning. Regardless, El Union remains a must-visit destination in Elyu.

Atmosphere-wise, it looks chill and I like the aesthetic they're going with. The random doodles on a paper all over the counter was a cute touch which I found very endearing. Service is great too as coffee is being prepared as your order. Kakatapos ko palang magbayad, andyan na agad yung order which is 5/5 if you're on a rush. However, the coffee we tried were all watered down and we ordered 5 different flavors and not one hit the spot😭. Grilled cheese was okay and the 'cheese pull' was present hehe. A little bit on the pricier side too. Overall, I would not recommend if you're going in for pure coffee experience but would suggest it if you're in for the 'vibe' and experience.

🍴 Kare-Kare Bagnet, Adobo Flakes ✨ Casual, local, Filipino 🏆 Affordable and authentic Filipino comfort food

Tagpuan is a classic! Whenever I'm craving a cheap but delicious Filipino breakfast, I head here. Their bagnet is life! Last Sunday, I brought my balikbayan cousin here and she loved it talaga!

💡
Insider Tip

Tagpuan is super popular, especially after a night out, so expect a queue! But it moves fast, I promise. A little secret? They sometimes have special breakfast silogs not on the menu, just ask the staff what's available.

Must try. Good food and good service, but their kimchi tasted dull but all in all it’s a good restaurant to eat.

If you need a quick fix when you’re hungry, check this place out. The service is fast, and the food is affordable. We tried their tapa, and it was worth it. The place is small and located along an alley, but it’s one of the recommended spots on social media. There’s also a sign reminding customers to return their bowls after eating.

🍴 Iced Latte, Avocado Toast ✨ Eco-friendly, relaxed, surfer 🏆 Great coffee with a conscious vibe

I love Clean Beach Coffee because their coffee is great and they're all about sustainability. Their avocado toast is also pretty good! The perfect place to chill after a beach cleanup.

They often host events and workshops focused on sustainability. Check their social media for the schedule. They also have refill options for water, so bring your own bottle. Plus, the owner sometimes gives discounts if you help with their beach cleanups!

Clean Beach Coffee is a must-visit in San Juan, La Union, especially for those who want to support a sustainable, community-driven business. It offers a laid-back, "toes-in-the-sand" experience that is quintessential Elyu. * Excellent Local Coffees: They take pride in their beans, particularly their Kalinga brew. Whether you like it hot or iced, the coffee is robust, smooth, and highlights the best of Philippine highland flavors. * Satisfying Eats: The food menu is adequately satisfying, offering classic comfort dishes that hit the spot after a surf session. * Sustainability First: The "clean" in their name isn't just for show. They are a zero-waste advocate, so expect no plastic straws and a genuine commitment to keeping the shoreline pristine. It is one of the most relaxed spots in town. With floor cushions, an open-air setup, and a front-row seat to the sunset, it’s the perfect place to unplug and enjoy a slow afternoon.

🍴 Pancakes, Mimosa ✨ Stylish, beachy, upscale 🏆 Stylish breakfast with beach views

Mad Monkeys is where I go when I want a slightly fancier breakfast experience. Their pancakes are fluffy AF, and the cocktails are great too! Perfect for a special brunch.

💡
Insider Tip

Book ahead, especially on weekends. Their beachfront tables are the best, so request one when you book. They also have special brunch deals on certain days, so check their Facebook page for updates. The owner is often around and happy to recommend something!

We ate at Mad Monkey and ordered from the menu posted on the wall with prices. There’s an additional ₱150 if you want fries and drinks with your burger. The burger was big, but the taste was just okay — nothing really special. Each burger has its own service charge, and even the fries + drinks add-on has a separate service charge. total of ₱536 para sa pinakamahal na burger + fries and drinks and service charge.

Sorry Shakeshack but these burgers are better. If you are in Elyu you should atleast give this a try, these burger are the juiciest a bit messy to eat though. I absolutely loved Amboy If i can change something about it is probably the pricing, its more on pricier side but the quality is up there with the best.

🍴 Gyro, Greek Breakfast Platter ✨ Casual, family-friendly, Greek 🏆 Authentic Greek dishes with a Filipino twist

Okay, so Gefseis isn't technically a brunch place *only*, but they have amazing breakfast options with a Greek twist! I always get their Gyro or the Greek Breakfast Platter – super sulit! They’re located in San Fernando, a short drive from the surf area.

💡
Insider Tip

The owner is Greek and super friendly! Ask him about the history of the dishes. They also have a small selection of Greek wines that pair perfectly with their food. Plus, they sometimes have live music on weekends, so check their schedule.

For a first-timer trying Greek cuisine, Gefseis was such a pleasant surprise. Everything we ordered was delicious—nothing disappointed—and even the kids loved their meals! We arrived just half an hour before closing, yet the staff welcomed us warmly and gave us 100% excellent service. We ordered the Angus Kebab, Grilled Tuna, and Grilled Salmon—safe choices for Greek first-timers, but you can definitely taste the distinct Greek flavors in each dish. All meals come with a side salad, which was a nice Mediterranean touch. Our kids both had the Kanelonia Beef, their take on beef lasagna, and we were amazed that they finished the generous serving. For a full Greek experience, we highly recommend getting the Dip Platter. We loved it so much that we ordered it twice! It comes with pita bread, but we still ended up ordering an extra set because it was just that good. Another must-try is their Saganaki Cheese—fried feta wrapped in Greek pastry, topped with honey and served with lemon on the side. Absolutely delightful. And don’t leave without trying their Greek Yogurt Shake. Trust us, you won’t regret it. Will we eat here again? Definitely—100% yes!

I’ve been traveling to Urbiztondo 2–3 times a month since 2012, and this was my first time dining at Gefseis. I honestly can’t believe it took me this long. Everything we ordered was excellent, especially the fried feta cheese and fried zucchini crispy, flavorful, and absolutely satisfying. Truly money well spent, and definitely a place I’ll be coming back to
